Graduate students from across Georgia State University and Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning apply for the Urban Fellows Program every spring.
Through this interdisciplinary program, students examine issues related to urban growth. Fellows interact with experts in the field, attend lectures, write a research paper, and present their research to the class for course credit.

Program Requirements
Lecture Series
- Distinguished speakers from academics, government, and the private sector talk about a variety of urban and environmental issues. Student interest helps direct the types of speakers we select.
- Lectures will be held in the fall semester on Mondays from 1-2:40 p.m.
- The lectures are different every year based on student interest and hot topics. Examples of the types of lectures we schedule: Atlanta Regional Commission updates; Resilient Cities; Water and Natural Resources; Education; Transportation Planning; History of Atlanta.
Mandatory Research Paper & Presentation
All Urban Fellows must write a research paper of publishable quality on any urban, growth management, or environmental law and policy issue. Students will briefly present their research to the class at the end of the fall semester. Students have the option to select a paper advisor in their home department or on their thesis/dissertation committee.
Class Logistics
Accepted Urban Fellows students will be registered for the course LAW 7494 for 2 credits in the fall semester; law class tuition rates apply to this class. This course satisfies the COL’s writing requirement.
How To Apply
Law students in good academic standing may self-register for the class, but should still fill out the application below.
Non-law students should fill out the urban fellows application below. Upon acceptance, they will be asked for their panther ID number to be registered for the class.
Acceptance decisions will be made quickly.
