MEDIATION CLINIC
Students are trained to mediate any civil case, with the exception of family or juvenile law.
Mediation Clinic students mediate landlord-tenant disputes in Fulton County and DeKalb County. Students mediate residential cases under an attorney's supervision. Students will draft details of the settlement agreement (assuming one is reached), and present it to the supervising attorney.
Students receive general civil mediation training and begin mediating cases within two weeks of training.

Academic Information
Students must commit to two semesters (one full year). The clinic is offered for 3 credit hours each semester.
The program conducts mediation training the first or second week in August. Attendance is mandatory for the entire 28 hours of training. Training dates will be confirmed no later than June 15. Students interact regularly with court staff, including clerks and judges. Students will observe court proceedings in Dispossessory Court, and State and Superior Court, as time permits. Prior to mediating, students will receive 28 hours of general civil mediation training and will be registered as neutrals with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
Students work with parties on cases filed in Dispossessory Court, and mediate landlord-tenant disputes in an attempt to reach a settlement. The issues usually involve a tenant's failure to pay rent and lease violations. Students do not represent tenants or landlords. They work to mediate these disputes and help the parties reach a resolution, if possible.
Required Background Check: Upon acceptance, a criminal background check by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution will be conducted.
