Trisha Kanan, principal senior lecturer, teaches Lawyering Foundations, a rigorous, practice-focused writing course that teaches first-year students skills in legal analysis, problem-solving, and effective written and oral advocacy.
Before joining the faculty in 2006, Kanan practiced employment law for several years with Morrison & Foerster in Los Angeles and a small firm in Richmond, Virginia. She litigated discrimination, harassment, and trade secret cases and counseled companies on employment-related matters. She is admitted to practice law in California, Virginia and Georgia and is a member of the Legal Writing Institute.
Kanan graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she received a full scholarship and served as lead articles editor of Pepperdine Law Review. She also worked as an extern for Judge Dickran Tevrizian of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and Judge Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. She is a magna cum laude graduate of UCLA with degrees in mathematics and philosophy.
