- Biography
Kathleen Dumitrescu is a staff attorney with Atlanta Legal Aid’s Disability Integration Unit specializing in children and transitional youth issues. She served on the Supreme Court of Georgia’s Committee on Justice for Children for eighteen years. Kathleen started at Atlanta Legal Aid in 1987. She managed Legal Aid’s Cobb County Office where she and Cathy Vandenberg spent years litigating the first-class action brought against the Department of Juvenile Justice over conditions in the Cobb Youth Detention Center. In between her stints at Legal Aid, Kathleen managed the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Advocacy in Education program for 8 years. Kathleen is a graduate of University of Illinois at Chicago and Southern Illinois University School of Law. She has worked to improve resources for vulnerable kids in Georgia for the past 31 years. Kathleen is unreasonably proud of the fact that at least half of state agency staffers that she works with will take her phone calls without resorting to hiding under their desks to avoid contact.
