James Mitchell, clinical supervising attorney and adjunct professor, teaches in the HeLP Legal Services Clinic. Mitchell earned his juris doctorate from Notre Dame Law School, where he served as senior editor of the Notre Dame Law Review.

While in law school, Mitchell completed an externship with the U.S Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago. He also participated in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Summer Honors Program.

Following law school, Mitchell served as a staff attorney with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta. During his term, he wrote and researched on complex and novel issues of federal law, including criminal law, civil rights, immigration, and employment law.

Additionally, prior to joining the College of Law, Mitchell represented clients in federal and state court in a wide variety of practice areas, including product liability, constitutional law, and insurance litigation.
