Externs will receive case files with motions and other pleadings, including motions to compel, motions for summary judgment, motions for attorney's fees, petitions for judicial review, declaratory judgments, etc. Externs will read the case file, conduct research, write a summary including important facts and applicable law, and make a recommendation regarding whether the motion should be granted or denied. Student will also have the opportunity to observe status and pre-trial conferences. Also, students can expect to have the practical experience of filing documents with the Clerk's office, reviewing pleadings, assisting with calendars, and reviewing the Court's docket to ensure proper resolution of cases.
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
Prerequisites:
- Proficiency in Lexis and/or Westlaw legal research platforms
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and communication skills
- Excellent work ethic and a demonstrated interest in working in a judicial setting
- A positive attitude, good sense of humor, and the ability to work well with others as part of a team

Access to a laptop computer that can be brought to the externship site is required.
