Students who participate in an externship position with Equifax's Intellectual Property Department will have the opportunity to gain experience in a broad variety of legal issues and legal services encountered by in-house intellectual property attorneys, including developing strategies for protecting inventions through filing of patent applications and working with outside counsel on their execution, evaluating new product names for risk of trademark infringement and trademark registrability, and reviewing intellectual property terms in customer and vendor contracts.
Under supervision by the Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, students may be involved in the following activities: drafting and reviewing contracts and participating in negotiations of the same; conducting research on routine and complex legal questions; and activities associated with managing a global intellectual property portfolio. Externs are also exposed to the structure and importance of a quality in-house legal department and may have contact with high-level business executives and other key stakeholders.

Preferences:
- Second-year students may apply, but preference is for third-year students given subject matter
- Classes in contracts, intellectual property, patents, trademarks, copyrights, internet and technology law would be helpful
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Student must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
- Student will be required to agree to a background check and drug screening before starting.
