Message from Interim Dean Courtney Anderson
Dear College of Law Community,
I am so excited to be appointed Interim Dean for Georgia State University College of Law. I started my career at the College in 2012 as an assistant professor and was appointed as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in March of 2023.
The position for a permanent College of Law dean will be posted this fall, with interviews expected in spring 2025 and a summer 2025 start date. I look forward to working with our colleagues across the University, alumni, and other key stakeholders to ensure the opportunities stemming from decades of hard work are realized. Our community members have worked hard to foster an academic environment to allow our students to successfully contribute to the profession and their community.
We intend to continue these achievements through the vision and strategic initiatives of our dean. To ensure a sturdy foundation for the next dean of the College of Law, the focal points for the next twelve months will be engaging our community members, amplifying the research and scholarship of our faculty and students, and elevating the student experience.
Our leadership team is working with our Law Alumni Council to plan reunions and gatherings for College of Law graduates. We are also integrating our alumni more intentionally into our student success activities through mentorship programming substantive networking events. The College of Law will also develop partnerships with our alumni base and Board of Visitors to support the academic success and career readiness of our students.
College of Law faculty members produce high quality scholarship, which critique and support the most salient legal issues of our time. In addition to the constant media presence, the expertise of our faculty members has created the foundation for legislative change, technological advancement and advocacy for marginalized voices. Amplifying the research accomplishments of our professors, and how they support our student publications, will optimize the impact of their important work.
We strive to create a rigorous and supportive law school setting where students evolve into attorneys by developing their professional identity and committing themselves to careers defined by service, honor and personal growth. At the College of Law, we will integrate the various aspects of learning, wellness, community citizenship, practicing law and public service through dedicated experiences and informative tools to demystify each student’s academic and professional journey. We are confident that our dedication to student success will positively affect their post-law school achievements.
Please connect with me to share your ideas and thoughts of how to use this year to elevate the talents possessed by our community members to guide the upward trajectory of our institution.
Sincerely,
Courtney Anderson
