On Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at 11 a.m. Georgia State University will conduct a mandatory fire drill for the College of Law building. We need everyone to cooperate to make this drill a success. Please read the instructions below to educate yourself on what you need to do on the day of the fire drill or in the event of an emergency.
- Everyone must leave the building when the alarm sounds! Please meet on the plaza in front of the Georgia Pacific building at the corner of Park Place and John Wesley Dobbs.
- Do not take the elevator, locate the nearest stairwell, and proceed downstairs and out of the building.
- When traveling down stairwells, everyone should bear to the right to make room for emergency personnel.
- Information for people with physical limitations: Floor coordinators (or assistance buddies) will escort them to the nearest stairwell and wait with them until emergency personnel arrives. The floor coordinator will alert emergency personnel and share the floor number, directional stairwell, and number of people who need assistance exiting the building (ex: 3rd floor, north stairwell, 2 people). This will help the fire department to immediately locate and rescue anyone in need of help.
- No one can return to the building until Georgia State University Police give the “all clear” and permit people to re-enter the building.
- The College of Law building is equipped with some of the most modern Life Safety Equipment and Delayed Egress Doors. The doors use Special Locking Arrangements that are code compliant and approved by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. There is signage installed on the doors and or adjacent doors notifying occupants of the fact that the Approved Delayed Egress Locking System is in use.
Note: When Fire (Heat Detector), Smoke (Smoke Detector) and or Automatic Sprinkler System is activated/detected – the locking system shall deactivate allowing unobstructed egress.
Please send an email to [email protected] if you have a physical limitation and will need assistance exiting the building while using the stairwells.
