Melissa Davies, a 1L from Smyrna, is one of the Pro Bono Program’s most active volunteers. She believes pro bono work is important because it provides benefits to our surrounding communities that might otherwise not be available.
Since classes have moved online, Melissa has continued to do remote pro bono work with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s (AVLF) Safe and Stable Homes Project. With AVLF, Melissa has helped low-income tenants who have been wrongfully evicted or have been treated unfairly by their landlords. She has reviewed case files, communicated with potential clients, compiled lists of compelling cases for AVLF’s Saturday Lawyers Program.
The ongoing pandemic has not stopped Melissa from doing substantive pro bono work. Through these pro bono opportunities, she has worked alongside lawyers (virtually) in creating substantial and meaningful relationships with members of our community—all while directly affecting their lives for the better.
