Mock Trial team wins 2011 Arbitration National Championship

The Georgia State University College of Law’s mock arbitration team marked their debut season with a resounding win at the American Bar Association (“ABA”) National Arbitration Competition. The ABA held their national competition on January 21-22, 2011, at their headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.


“It was great to be able to represent Georgia State at the national level and win! It really is a testament to our wonderful mock trial program,” said team member Madeleine Peake.

Islamic Speakers Bureau building bridges through education and understanding

Panthers using PAWS: New student portal offers many new features

Panther Access to Web Services, or PAWS, is a university-wide effort to create a  portal through which students can easily access information.


Director of Information Technology and Law Librarian Terrance Manion  said, “PAWS is really that vehicle for law students to interact with the rest of the university.” Through PAWS, students can find out information about emergency situations, housing, student recreation and parking. Students can also use PAWS to register for classes, complete  course evaluations, view grades and apply for graduation. PAWS is also the primary vehicle for accessing financial aid information.

New GSU Law Library Blog Provides Information and Entertainment

Back in September of this year, the Georgia State University College of Law Library launched its new blog, The Blackacre Times.

The Blackacre Times, written by and maintained by the Law School library staff, offers a variety of content from four primary contributors: Deborah Schander (Reference / Student Services Librarian); Meg Butler (Associate Director for Public Services); Pam Brannon (Faculty Services Librarian); and Austin Williams (Reference / Student Services Librarian).

The story of David versus the Goliath has become an obligatory mention whenever an underdog defeats a heavy favorite in competition. The biblical story has become so cliché that giant-slaying may seem a commonplace practice.  In reality, underdogs usually lose and favorites usually win on a level playing field. But if a blindfolded David faced Goliath with one arm tied behind his back, would the tale end the same?

The 2010-2011 school year looks to be filled with changes. From the first day of their term this summer, this year’s SBA board has been working hard for the Georgia State University College of Law students. We have sought out students’ concerns and have presented them to the administration to enact change. Some of these changes have already taken place – others are still in progress.

Students Inquire about Financial Aid, Infrastructure at Dean's Forum

On September 22, 2010 Dean Kamenshine, along with Dean Sobelson and Dean Timmons hosted their bi-annual Dean’s Forum. The forum provided students an opportunity to voice their concerns directly to the deans.  For this forum, Dean Kamenshine invited Louis Scott, director of the Financial Aid Office, and other representatives of the financial aid department to discuss students’ concerns specific to their department.
