Don't Have a Job Yet?
by Ben Walden
Don't have a job yet? Well, do not feel alone, you are not the only one.
In fact, it seems after listening to people walking around the law school, no
one does. I know that people out there have jobs, which only goes to show
that you cannot believe everything you hear. But I also know that there
are many that do not. So what should you do? Freak out and pull your hair
out until you are bald? No, take a deep breath and make a plan. First, have you been telling everyone you know that you need a job. When I
say everyone, I mean EVERYONE. When you see a friend from High School, do
you tell her you are looking for a law job? How about friends and friends of the
family, do they know you are looking? What about your family - do your cousins,
aunts, and uncles know you are looking for a job? If not, tell them! This
is your network. Most jobs are found through friends and family members,
not job listings. Go to continuing education programs, set up information
meetings, they get you leads. Second, have you talked with Career Services about a plan? You can tailor a plan
to your specific situation and area of practice. The point is - it is not too late, you can still find a job. You just have
to get working.
