1.              Legal Statement.  Notwithstanding any language to the contrary, nothing contained within the Docket newspaper nor the Docket website constitutes nor is intended to constitute an offer, inducement, promise, guarantee, warranty or contract of any kind. The information contained within those publications is for informational purposes only, is not represented to be error free, and is subject to change at any time. The information provided by the Docket is intended only for educational or informational purposes and does not constitute legal advice. Use of any Docket publication, including the newspaper and website, does not create an attorney-client relationship. Anyone seeking legal advice should contact a licensed attorney.

              No material from the Docket newspaper or website may be copied, reproduced, re-published, uploaded, posted, transmitted, or distributed in any way except that you may download a copy of the materials for non-commercial, personal, or educational purposes only, provided that you

                            (1) do not modify such information and

                            (2) include both this notice and any copyright notice originally included with such information. If material is to be used for other purposes, you must obtain permission from the Georgia State University College of Law (“GSU CoL”) to use the copyrighted material.

              While it is important that no material under external copyright is improperly used on the Docket pages, it is impossible to verify originality on every item presented for inclusion in a page. The Docket's limit to remedy for mistaken use is to remove the material from the website and to print a retraction of the offending material in the newspaper immediately succeeding notice of the infringement.               Some Web servers on GSU CoL's domain may permit the storage of personal home pages; neither GSU CoL nor its employees can be responsible for the content of such pages. Every Web publisher at GSU CoL is responsible for following the University's policies on copying copyrighted materials and intellectual property. 3.              Content Accuracy.  All content published by the Docket, whether in the Docket newspaper or website, not including student blogs, is fact checked for accuracy and all reasonable means are taken to ensure the accuracy and validity of all information posted.  If any information is found out later to be inaccurate as of the time of the original printing/posting, a retraction will be printed/posted within a reasonable time of receipt of notification.

4.              Hold harmless.  The content provided within the Docket newspaper and on the Docket website is for informational and entertainment purposes only.  The Docket does not provide legal or any other professional advice. 

5              Privacy Statement.  The GSU CoL is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect no personal information when you visit our Web site unless you proactively submit such information. Any information submitted via the Web site will only be used for the purposes stated on the submission page. Release of personal information is governed by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).               As with most Web sites on the Internet, our Web server logs standard information about your visit. These logs do not identify you personally unless you log in to a restricted area. 6                Freedom of Speech.  The Docket respects and holds the First Amendment rights of its writers in the utmost respect.  In the interest of free speech and open debate, the Docket will promote its writers to express themselves in a way the they best fits the writers’ purpose.  However, the Docket encourages its writers at all times to use restraint and common sense in the way in which the writers choose to express themselves. The Docket encourages contributors of Content to refrain from the following types of content:

              a.                Offensive material.  Offensive Content includes, but is not limited to:   pornography or material that is overtly sexual or sexually prurient; any material that is attacks, demeans, or is inherently derogatory to any religion, race, gender, age, marital status, national origin, or sexual orientation; any material that encourages, supports, or would cause another to commit any illegal act of violence or act of moral turpitude.

              b.              Defamatory material.  Defamatory Content includes, but is not limited to, any comments, references to, or insinuations about a specific person, or class of persons, which may subject GSU and its agents to any litigation or public scrutiny.

              c.              Not in accordance to Honor Code.  Content includes material that would violate the GSU CoL Honor Code can be viewed at law.gsu.edu/registrar/bulletin/honorcode.php

              d.               Content Accuracy.  All content published by the Docket, whether in the Docket newspaper or website, not including student blogs, is fact checked for accuracy and all reasonable means are taken to ensure the accuracy and validity of all information posted.  If any information is found out later to be inaccurate as of the time of the original printing/posting, a retraction will be printed/posted within a reasonable time of receipt of notification.

7.               International and Cultural Laws.  The Docket is not responsible for defamatory statements bound to government, religious, or other laws from any reader’s country of origin outside of the United States of America.  The Docket is bound by the laws and regulations of the State of Georgia and the United States of America.

8.              Letter to the Editor.  Any communication sent directly to the Docket specifically marked “Letter to the Editor” is subject to publication (either in print or online).  A Letter to the Editor requires the addressor’s name and that name will be published with the communication.  The addressor’s contact information will be retained, but not published.  Letters to the Editor are published for informational purposes only and a response may or may not be published along with any letter.  Any Letter to the Editor becomes the exclusive property of the GSU and the Docket whether published or not (see copyright disclaimer above).  The Docket reserves the right to publish Letters to the Editor at any time, regardless of when the communication was sent.

9.              Articles, Editorials, and Blogs.  All Content is published “as is.”  Any reader of Content published by the Docket newspaper or on the Docket website reads Content contained therein of his or her own free will and takes that Content at his or her own risk.  All Editorial or Opinion-based Content (including Editorials and Blogs) are the opinions of the respective authors of that Content.  All comments posted in relation to Content on the Docket website are the opinions of the respective authors only.  Content published in the Docket newspaper or on the Docket website do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of GSU or the GSU CoL.  Neither GSU nor or the GSU CoL is not responsible for the accuracy of any content published by the Docket or the Docket website.

10.                Comments Published on the Docket Website.  All comments posted on the Docket website are accredited to the respective commenter to that article or blog.  The Docket encourages all commenters to maintain all decorum and civility when making comments and refrain from making comments which are offensive, defamatory, or other otherwise not in accordance to the standards set forth by the Honor Code of the GSU CoL.

11.              Editorial PolicyThe Docket publishes letters and columns of interest to the Law School and the legal community at large. Views expressed in such submissions are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the Docket or the Editorial Board. Letters from organizations must bear the name, signature, and title of the person authorizing the submission. All letters and columns must either be submitted in hardcopy bearing a handwritten signature along with an electronic version, or be mailed from the author's e-mail account.

Submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. two weeks before publication and must be in accordance with the submission guidelines. Letters over 500 words and columns over 700 words may not be accepted. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit all submissions for length, grammar, and clarity. Although every effort is made to publish all materials meeting our guidelines, we regret that not all submissions received can be published.
