How to Edit the Content in the Template System

The content for a page is stored in a file that starts with the root file name and ends with “.htm” or “.html”

For this page that you are reading, the root file name is “edit_notes” with this content stored in the file “edit_notes.htm”. To access this page online, you would use the root file name with the extension “.php”, so the complete page address is: http://law.gsu.edu/template/edit_notes.php

Both MS Word and WordPerfect will automatically create hyperlinks from text that appears to be a web page address (i.e. starts with “www.” or “http://”) .

If you want to insert a link to another page, you can highlight the text to be made into a link and use the menu “Insert/Hyperlink” (Word) or “Tools/Hyperlink” (WordPerfect). When asked for the link address (Word) or Document (WordPerfect), enter the complete web page address including the “http://”.

You can insert images and resize them. The images will be saved to your web site automatically when you save the page.

To save your page and make it “live” on your web site, use the menu “File/Save as Web Page” (Word) or “File/Publish To/HTML” (WordPerfect).

In MS Word, it is best to change the “Save as Type” drop-down selector to “Web Page, Filtered”.

More details coming soon. WordPerfect users need to take a few extra steps when saving a page that has embedded graphics.
