Student Organization Web SitesStudent organizations are provided basic web space on the College of Law server. Access to edit the web sites is provided to the organization president and designed web editors. To arrange additional access to a site, contact the College of Law Web Coordinator. The Web Coordinator can assist students on editing their organization's site by appointment or on a drop-in basis (best to call first). Editing access is provided via the WebDAV protocol using your MyLaw ID for access. See the "Using NetDrive" page for details on installing NetDrive to map your web site folder to a drive letter on your PC. The WebDAV protocol is also supported on MACs and PCs ("Add Network Place" on "My Network Places"). Many Student Organization sites use the Simple Template System and a custom template for their site. This system makes it feasible to use Word to edit the web pages. Links to organization web sites that are kept up to date are provided by the organization listing page. Sites that are neglected or out of date will have the links to those sites removed. With this in mind, it is recommended that student organizations that cannot commit to regular updates of their site simply set up a "brochure" site with information that does not go out of date - i.e. broad mission statements/purpose/history, etc. - and rely on the upcoming events calendar and the student organization listing page for those web elements that change. The following sections show how to use these dynamic elements on your site. Embedding a List of OfficersA dynamic officer list module is now available to embed in student organization pages. It uses a small JavaScript module to include a table of officers into the page. If the visitor has JavaScript disabled on their browser, they will be given a link to a non-JavaScript list of officers. See an example. To place on your page:First, get your organization "id" number. This will be used in the "?id=##" HTML in two places below. Copy and paste this embed HTML code, substituting in your organization's "id" number. The included style sheet, "olist.css", does not set any font face, size or style (other then the color of the e-mail links), so your list can be made to match the rest of your site. Also note that the e-mail addresses are obfuscated to deter SPAM robots from harvesting the addresses. Embedding an event listingTo embed an event listing, use the code from this pop-up window For more details, contact the web coordinator. |
