Installing the Panther Print software on Mac OS X 10.5+

Before you start the installation, please carefully review the instructions below. If you have access to another printer system, you may want to print the instructions first prior to attempting the installation.  IMPORTANT: You will need to be connected on to the network to complete the installation process.

There are three steps in this process:

  1. You will install the PantherPrint software.
  2. You will add the PantherPrint stations to your laptop printer settings.
  3. You will print a document to test the installation.

1. Install the Panther Print Software

 

Download the PantherPrint for Macs software from the College of Law Download Center.  The file you download will be named GSULAW_Popup.dmg.

Double-click this file to create a new disk image in Finder.

This disk contains the Popup installer, Popup.pkg.

Double-click the installer to run it. You may have to log in as an administrator. If so, click the lock icon and type in your administrator username and password. 

Follow the prompts to begin the PantherPrint for Mac installation.

When you are asked to select a destination volume, select the startup volume (Macintosh HD). 

Click Continue.

2. Adding in a PantherPrint Station

Next, you will need to add in a PantherPrint station (or both if you choose).  The two available printers are the Law Library Alcove printer or the Law Library Computer lab printer.

Open your System Preferences.

Open ‘Print & Fax.'

Click the ‘+' to add a printer.

Select ‘IP' in the toolbar.

In the Protocol dropdown list, select ‘Line Printer Daemon - LPD'.

In the address field, type in uniprint.gsu.edu.

In the Queue field, type in lawp1 for PantherPrint station located in the Law Library Alcove.

In the Name field, type in GSU Law  PantherPrint #1.

In the Location field,  type in Law Library Alcove.

In the Print Using field,  leave it as Generic PostScript Printer.

Click Add.

Adding the Law Library Computer Lab PantherPrint Station

Follow the same steps as for installing the Alcove PantherPrint station, but use the following settings: 

In the Queue field, type in lawp2 for PantherPrint station located in the Law Library Computer Lab.

In the Name field, type in GSU Law  PantherPrint #2.

In the Location field,  Law Library Computer Lab.

3. Perform a Test Print

Now that you have installed the printers, you should do a test print.  You must be on campus connected to the GSU network for this to work. Whenever you print a document and select a PantherPrint Station a dialog box will appear.

Enter in a name and a password for your print job.  You can choose whatever name and password you prefer since this is used only by you to release your print job at the PantherPrint station.
