Installing the Panther Print software
Before you start the installation, please carefully review the instructions below. If you have access to another printer system, you may want to print the instructions first prior to attempting the installation. IMPORTANT: You will need to be connected on to the network to complete the installation process.
There are three steps in this process:
- You must add a printer to your computer’s printer settings.
- You will install the PantherPrint software.
- You will print a document to test the installation.
1. Adding a Printer
With the Start button menu:
Start > Printers and Faxes. - or - Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes.
This will take you to the Printers and Faxes window.
Select the Add a printer link at the top of the left pane.
The Add Printer Wizard begins. Click Next to begin.
Select the radio button next to Local printer attached to this computer.
Uncheck the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer checkbox.
Click Next.
Now you must select a printer port.
Select FILE: (Print to File). Click Next to continue.
At the Install Printer Software prompt, select HP from the Manufacturer list on the left.
Select HP LaserJet 8100 Series PCL for the type of printer in the Printers list on the right.
Click Next to continue.
HP LaserJet 8100 Series PCL appears as the default printer name.
You may name the printer anything you want.
In this example, we added GSU LAW At the beginning of the default printer name that appears.
Click Next to continue.
At the Print Test Page Prompt, select "No".
Click Next to continue.
Click Finish to complete the process of adding the printer.
The printer now appears in the Printers & Faxes Window.
You are now ready for the next step.
2. Installing the Panther Print Pharos Software
Run the Pharos installation program (on the CD version). After click the link, confirm in any warning screens that you want to run the program.
The installation process begins.
Click Next to continue.
Make sure the radio button by Typical is selected.
Click Next to continue.
The PantherPrint software will install in your Program Files directory.
Click Next to continue.
Make sure the radio button next to Yes is selected.
Click Next to continue.
Check the Uniprint 5.2 checkbox.
Click Next to continue.
Select the Client checkbox. Click Next to continue.
Uncheck the Pharos Notify checkbox.
Click Next to continue.
Verify that the TCP/IP Host Name radio button Is selected.
Enter the Host Name: uniprint.gsu.edu.
Click Next to continue.
The PantherPrint software will connect to the print server.
The PantherPrint software will need to link with the printer you added earlier to your Printers and Faxes settings.
Select the printer you added earlier.
Click Next to continue.
To complete the configuration, click on the Browse button.
On the left hand side, highlight UNIPRINT.
On the right hand side, Select LAWP1 from the list.
Click OK to continue.
(note: LAWP1 is the printer in the alcove opposite the reference desk. LAWP2 is in the computer lab)
\\UNIPRINT\LAWP1 appears in the field next to the Browse button.
Click Next to continue.

The installation settings have now been configured.
Click the Start button to begin the PantherPrint Software installation.
The installation process continues.
If install progam encounters an error trying to copy the file "psbasres.dll", that file will need to be copied manually. You can download the dll file from the Download Center. After you've downloaded the psbasres.dll file, copy the file to C:\Program Files\Pharos folder on your laptop.
Once the installation has completed, click the Finish button.
You will be prompted to restart your computer.
Click OK to continue.
3. Print a Test Page
After your computer has restarted, you will need to test the printer connection.
Open any document on your computer, and use menu: File / Print.
At the Print dialog box,
Select the printer you added previously in the printer name field ( GSU LAW or whatever name you gave it).
Click OK to continue.
Name your your print job. You may want to use your MyLaw ID.
Enter a password so another student can't accidentally clear your print job. Note that this can be a made-up username and password used only to release this print job.
Click OK.
Your document will print to the LAWP1 printer located across from the Law Library Reference Desk. You will need to use your PantherCard along with the above assigned username and password to release the print job. You have 45 minutes before the print queue is purged. Your account is not charged until the job is released.
