Overview

This project establishes a suite of services and resources allowing the College of Law to automate recording and delivery of lectures and events hosted at the College of Law. The first component of the service is the classroom video recording and capture system which will provide dedicated and automated video recording services for 4 classrooms.

This automatic system captures an entire in-class lecture, including audio, and instantly transforms it into a streaming video file stored on College of Law Apple servers that can be viewed through a web page.  This system also creates podcasts of lectures for students to sync with their digital AV players making the content available to students for review at a later time. As more requests for classroom video recording come in, the College intends to transition video recording away from analog tapes to digital format.  This system will also allow automatic Web-based control of the cameras.

Goal

The goal will be to implement a classroom video recording system that will provide a self-service approach for its use and will record directly to digital format.

Benefits include automated recording start/stop controls via a Web interface; joystick integration for camera control in the classroom, thus reducing labor of setup, tape transfer, compression, and output formatting.

Objectives

  • Provide an easy-to-use, Web-interface controlled classroom recording system
  • Provide a Web-based delivery mechanism for video recorded with the system that removes the need for analog video tapes
