  • August 27:  Introductory handout and problems on early judicial treatment of labor disputes
  • September 3:  Casebook pp. 113-134; Problem handout on access and solicitation
  • September 10: No class
  • September 17: Prepare topics 3 and 4 on the syllabus; after  reading the Sewell case in your casebook, read R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, 505 U.S. 377 (1992), and consider whether Sewell is constitutional after R.A.V.   You must post your assessment on our discussion page
  • September 24: Prepare topics 5 and 6 on the syllabus.
  • October 1:  Prepare topic 7 on the syllabus.

  • October 8: Prepare topic 8 on the syllabus.

  • October 15:  Prepare topics 9 and 10 and read the Mack Truck case on the Yurosek case.  Links to these cases are in "Course Materials."
  • October 22: Prepare topic 10 and 11 on the syullabus.
  • October 29: Prepare topics 11 and 12 and, in connection with your reading on lockouts, read the Court of Appeal's and the NLRB's decisions in the International Paper Co. case. Both decisions are posted in "Course Materials."
  • November 4: Prepare the rest of topic 12 and topic 13.
  • November 11: Topic 13.
  • November 18: Prepare topic 15. 
  • December 3: Review topic 16 (subjects of bargaining), and, in lieu of all of topics 17 and 18, prepare the following:
    Casebook pp. 724-730; 735-742; 754-756;and 801-812. Also, read the Gilmer case and the Ceasar case, posted under "Course Materials."
