Law From a
Comparative & International Perspective
“Entranaroda!” is a common Brazilian expression
that means “come join us!” (it literally means “enter
the circle”). This is to invite you to join an innovative summer learning
circle: in the summer of 2008, students in good standing at ABA-accredited law
schools can choose from a wide range of international and comparative law and
policy courses in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil.
Students can earn six (6) credits if they attend the entire program and take
both modules (May 17-June 15, 2008) or three (3) credits if they attend only
one module (May 17-May 30 or June 2-June 15). This program has been designed
with students in mind -- to provide a maximum degree of flexibility and variety
in terms of courses and learning opportunities.
Summer Legal
and Policy Study in Rio de Janeiro
is an interdisciplinary program offering courses in international and
comparative social justice and human rights law, environmental and
sustainability law, trade and corporate law, and criminal and family law.
oThe Program will include a mixture
of learning experiences including traditional lecture and class discussions
supplemented by role-playing exercises and on-site demonstrations from local
faculty, researchers and practitioners. All lectures will be IN ENGLISH or
accompanied by English translation. Each of the courses is designed to maximize
opportunities for students to learn about Brazil
and Rio de Janeiro,
and each features Brazilian speakers drawn from law, government and civil
society. Courses are taught in collaboration with faculty from Rio’s top universities. Field trips get students out into
the community to experience unusual sides of the “marvelous city” (as it is
known in Brazil)
first-hand. Follow the links at the left for complete details on Georgia
