Joseph A. Tomain’s experience includes academia, private practice and in-house counsel. He is senior media counsel for American Media Inc. Tomain provides a variety of media law services, including pre-publication and negotiation review, drafting contracts and managing potential litigation.
Tomain has been a visiting assistant professor at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and an associate professor at Florida Coastal School of Law. His teaching and scholarship focus on the First Amendment, Media Law, Cyberlaw, Intellectual Property and Contracts. Tomain’s works have been published in the Cincinnati Law Review, Drake Law Review, Michigan State Law Review and the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Tomain was a senior associate in the Cincinnati office of Frost Brown Todd. In addition to various other civil litigation matters, he successfully represented the Associated Press against a prior restraint and served as a trial team member that successfully defended a Louisville radio station against defamation and invasion of privacy claims.
Tomain has provided legal commentary on radio or television in Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky, and Jacksonville, Florida. He is a member of the ABA Forum on Communications Law’s Training and Development Committee. Tomain graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame Law School and served as president of the Notre Dame Club of Greater Cincinnati.
