Biography

Gregory Todd Jones is faculty research fellow, adjunct professor of law, and director of research at the inter-university Consortium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. He directs the Computational Laboratory for Complex Adaptive Systems. He is visiting research scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn, Germany. Jones earned degrees from the University of the South (B.A., philosophy), Auburn University (M.B.A., decision sciences & information systems), and Georgia State University (M.P.A., policy analysis & evaluation; J.D., magna cum laude; Ph.D., decision sciences). He has studied negotiation pedagogy at Harvard Law School and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. In addition, he has studied complex adaptive systems and formal computation at the New England Complex Systems Institute’s Winter School at MIT, Carnegie Mellon University’s Summer Institute on Computational Analysis of Social and Organizational Systems, and Harvard University’s program for Applied Sciences.

Jones’ primary research area involves the application of evolutionary game theory, experimental economics, and behavioral psychology to negotiation and conflict resolution. Other areas of interest include the use of statistics as evidence, legal risk analysis, and empirical legal studies. His research investigates trust, reputation, forgiveness, and emergent conflict and cooperation in computational simulation models and explores the nexus between conflict resolution theory and the biological basis for social organization.

Jones has written widely, with recent articles published by the Journal of Business Ethics, the Clinical Law Review, the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy, the Tennesee Law Review, the University of Miami Business Law Review, the Journal of Dispute Resolution, the Penn State Law Review, the DePaul Business and Commercial Law Journal, the Royal Statistical Society, and other scholarly publishers. His major treatise on the practice and procedure of alternative dispute resolution in Georgia, co-authored with Douglas Yarn, was published by Thomson West in 2006. He has presented his research in many venues, including most recently the Gruter Institute for Law and Behavioral Research, the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, the International Association for Conflict Management, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the Indiana University School of Law, and the Vanderbilt University Law School.

Jones has given expert testimony in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Superior Court, and before the House Judiciary Committee of the Georgia General Assembly. He has consulted with, among others, the Commonwealth of Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, the Alabama Department of Human Resources, Auburn University’s Economic Development Institute, and the National Institute for Literacy. His scholarship was cited by the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

Jones serves as editor-in-chief of the CNCR Press, staff editor of the American Business Law Journal, and as ad hoc reviewer for the Law and Social Sciences unit of the National Science Foundation.
