Basic Information
Professor Mary F. Radford teaches the following courses:
Faculty Profile: Professor Radford has been a member of the College of Law Faculty since Fall, 1984. She is a graduate of Emory University School of Law. Prior to joining the faculty, she was an Associate Attorney in the Atlanta law firm of Hansell & Post. In 1990-91, Professor Radford served as a Judicial Fellow, working for William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States. She has taught courses as a Visiting Professor at Emory University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Tennessee. She serves as the Reporter for the Probate Code Revision Committee and the Guardianship Code Revision Committee of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia. She is an Academic Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and is a member of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
WILLS, TRUSTS, & ESTATES I (LAW 7510)
Basic survey of the legal framework surrounding the transfer of property through intestate succession, wills, and trusts. Includes coverage of powers of appointment and an introductory overview of wealth transfer taxation.Students who wish to pursue advanced study in this area should check the Curriculum Handbook, "Wills, Trusts & Estates."
ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR (LAW 7210)In-depth coverage of selected topics related to the planning of estates, including planning for intrafamily transfers, use of the marital deduction, charitable giving, retirement plan benefits, life insurance, owners of closely held businesses, estate-freezing techniques, post-mortem planning, and international estate planning. Student writing project is designed to satisfy the legal writing requirement.

ESTATE & GIFT TAXATION (LAW 7205)Survey of estate and gift taxation with primary emphasis on federal tax law in these areas.

EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION (LAW 7195)A study of the major federal laws barring discrimination in employment, with emphasis on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities. The course will examine the procedures, methods of proof and defenses in discrimination cases, and address special problems in the areas of affirmative action, testing, gender discrimination, and remedies.
