FIRST ASSIGNMENT

The first class will meet on Tuesday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. For the first class, we will discuss the material in the casebook on pages 1-3, 6-7 and 16-20. Read only the first paragraph on page 7.

Analyze the Vokes case (pp. 16-19) in terms of the plaintiff bringing a cause of action under both a theory of deceit and a theory of misrepresentation. To assist you, a Handout is available in one of the third floor mailboxes outside Room 330. The Handout is titled "Common Law Deceit and Misrepresentation."

The required casebook is Michael Greenfield, Consumer Transactions, Third Edition, 1999. Later in the course you will also need the 2002 edition of Selected Commercial Statutes (West). In addition, for subsequent classes you will need the Supplementary Materials. These materials will be available in the near future. The Supplementary Materials are not needed for the first class. When ready, the Supplementary Materials can be purchased from the Printshop, 6 Decatur Street or accessed from the course Web site.
