Interlibrary Loan v. GIL Express
GIL Express- Patron directly makes the request
- Request books (not articles) from University System of Georgia libraries
- Patron monitors request to see whether it is filled
- Average delivery time is 4 days
- Books can be picked up from any USG library, as specified by the patron when making the request
- Books can be returned to any USG library
- Loan period is 28 days
- 2 renewals are allowed
- If a book is returned after the due date, patron is blocked from checking out materials from all USG libraries, including GSU libraries
Interlibrary Loan
- Library staff makes requests to other libraries, even though patrons place requests with their library
- Library staff monitors to see whether requests are filled
- Request books, journals, and journal articles from libraries worldwide
- Delivery times vary; can take 2-4 weeks
- Patron picks up items at the Law Library and returns them there (latter does not apply to photocopied articles)
- Loan period is at the discretion of the lending library
- Renewal policy is determined by the lending library
- If a book is returned late (or not at all), patron is responsible for any fines and fees
