Interlibrary Loan v. GIL Express

GIL Express

Patron directly makes the request
Request books (not articles) from University System of Georgia libraries
Patron monitors request to see whether it is filled
Average delivery time is 4 days
Books can be picked up from any USG library, as specified by the patron when making the request
Books can be returned to any USG library
Loan period is 28 days
2 renewals are allowed
If a book is returned after the due date, patron is blocked from checking out materials from all USG libraries, including GSU libraries

Interlibrary Loan

Library staff makes requests to other libraries, even though patrons place requests with their library
Library staff monitors to see whether requests are filled
Request books, journals, and journal articles from libraries worldwide
Delivery times vary; can take 2-4 weeks
Patron picks up items at the Law Library and returns them there (latter does not apply to photocopied articles)
Loan period is at the discretion of the lending library
Renewal policy is determined by the lending library
If a book is returned late (or not at all), patron is responsible for any fines and fees
