Classroom Instruction in Legal Bibliography
Nancy Johnson, Ron Wheeler, Terrance Manion, Pam Brannon, and Michael Davis teach the Legal Bibliography course for first year students. Nancy also teaches an advanced research seminar, Advanced Legal Research. In addition, the librarians provide instruction in the use of legal materials for any seminar or specialized course. If you are teaching a course that requires students to write a paper, please allow the librarians to address the class so that students can conduct their legal research efficiently and effectively.
Photocopy Services
Faculty members are encouraged to search for and print documents from LexisNexis and Westlaw. If you need an article or any other library materials copied, just give us the citation. We can also copy materials for you from the University Library. Please forward your requests to Ron Wheeler. Please be aware that the library does comply with all Copyright Act provisions.
Borrowing Library Materials
Law Library Circulation
In recognition of your research and teaching needs, circulation policies are liberal for law faculty. You may keep materials as long as you need them, unless we recall them. If we recall an item, please return it promptly; someone else may also need it for research purposes. Borrowing cards are kept for each law faculty member at the Circulation Desk. When you want to check out a book, simply present the book to the desk attendant. Please be sure to identify yourself since most of the desk attendants are not law students and may not know you. Your GRA may also use your card for borrowing books. If you have any questions regarding Circulation, please contact Keith Hill at 1-4213. Materials to be returned to the Law Library may be left in the mailbox on the fourth floor labeled "Return to Library" or on the book truck in the faculty library.
Borrowing Materials from University Library (formerly William Russell Pullen Library)
We can also borrow materials from the University Library for you. Please tell Ron Wheeler what you need, and it will be picked up for you. Books borrowed from University Library must be returned by the date due. We can also return materials for you. If you prefer to check out materials yourself from the University Library, you will need to take your Panther ID with you.Reserve Collection
Reserve Collections
The Law Library has both a physical reserve collection and an electronic reserve collection. Both collections allow faculty to place items on reserve for their classes. If the Law Library does not own an item you would like to put on reserve, the library can order the item for you. If we need to order items, it is important that you give the titles of the materials to Michael Davis as early as possible to ensure that the materials you want will be available when classes begin. Please be aware that the library does comply with all Copyright Act provisions. In addition to course materials, the physical reserve collection contains study aids, nutshells, and a few other titles.
The GSU Law Library E-Reserves system at http://reserves.gsu.edu/eres/ offers the College of Law community local and remote access to supplemental class materials that have traditionally been available only at the Law Library circulation desk. The E-Reserves system allows the Law Library to extend services beyond the physical library in order to better support our students' needs. All reserve items, other than books, audio-cassettes, and video-cassettes, will be posted to the Law Library E-Reserves system. E-Reserves documents are password protected. These items include cases, legislation, and links to web pages (including materials on the Westlaw and LexisNexis web sites). Law students can view and print these items in the computer lab or from a remote location. All items posted to the E-Reserves system are removed at the end of the semester. For assistance placing items on Electronic Reserve, please contact Michael Davis.
E(xam)- Archive
Past exams can be posted to the Law Library E-Archive system at http://law.gsu.edu/library/index/exam_archive. This resource is also password protected. Unlike the E-Reserve system the E-Archive system host documents indefinitely. Faculty wishing to post past exams to or remove posted exams from the E-Archive system should contact Pam Brannon.
Collection Maintenance
Juanita Wheeler heads our Collection Maintenance unit. Juanita oversees shelving, updating, and looseleaf filing tasks. She will contact you as necessary regarding updating materials in your office. Please direct any collection maintenance issues you may have to Juanita Wheeler.
