ILL v. GIL Express

 

Interlibrary Loan  GIL Express 
Library staff makes requests to other libraries, even though patrons place requests with their library   Patron directly makes the request 
Library staff monitors to see whether requests are filled Patron monitors request to see whether it is filled 
Request books, journals, and journal articles from libraries worldwide  Request books (not articles) from University System of Georgia libraries 
Delivery times vary; can take 2-4 weeks  Average delivery time is 4 days 
Patron picks up items at the Law Library and returns them there (latter does not apply to photocopied articles)  Books can be picked up from any USG library, as specified by the patron when making the request and  books can be returned to any USG library 
Loan period is at the discretion of the lending library   Loan period is 28 days
Renewal policy is determined by the lending library  2 renewals are allowed 
If a book is returned late (or not at all), patron is responsible for any fines and fees If a book is returned after the due date, patron is blocked from checking out materials from all USG libraries, including GSU libraries
