Although laptops are not required, the majority of students at GSU College of Law own and use personal laptops in and outside the classroom. The Law Library offers a number of services supporting law students' use of laptops and other devices. Please view below a list of services available in the in the College of Law Library.

NOTE: Students are responsible for maintaining their personal laptop computer for use as an instructional tool in the program. The College of Law does not provide laptop repair or diagnostic services for students. Students are directed to their laptop vendor for diagnosis and repair. Limited laptop services offered by the College of Law will not be able to be rendered if laptops are not in good working order. A compromised student laptop inhibits the successful application of settings and software.

Study Carrels and Study Rooms

The Law Library has 113 wired study carrels located throughout the Law Library. Each study carrel is equipped with electricity and network access. Also, the Law Library has thirteen group study rooms, which all have tables equipped with electricity and network access. Students can connect to the network either wirelessly or by using an Ethernet cable.

Wireless Network

The university wireless network is available throughout the Urban Life Building The university provides online instruction on how to set up wireless access.

NOTE: the demand on the wireless network can sometimes cause performance issues. We recommend that students use a network cable whenever possible for a faster, more secure connection.

Printing

Law students can set up their personal laptops to print to one of the law library PantherPrint stations. These print stations are located in the PC alcove located across from the reference desk and in the upper-level copy room.

Students wishing to print to one of these stations will need to install the Panther Print software included with the Rapid Start orientation.

Support

Limited personal laptop support is provided by the College of Law Technology Services staff and the University Information Systems and Technology Services (IS&T) department.

The College of Law Technology staff can help students connect their personal laptops to the network via the wired study carrels and study rooms in the Law Library and print to the Law Library printers provided that the laptops are in good working order.

Students experiencing difficulty connecting to the network in one of the wired classrooms should contact the College of Law technology help desk at (404) 413-9111. The Technology Services personnel will then ensure that the network ports are active.

IS&T supports students wishing to use the wireless network available in the Law Library, College of Law, and throughout the University. Information concerning wireless networking can be found at the university’s wireless networking website, http://www.gsu.edu/ist/wireless. Students who experience problems accessing the wireless network can call IS&T at (404) 413-4357.
