Olmstead Symposium
The Long Road Home: Perspectives On Olmstead Ten Years Later
Welcome to the web site for the 2009-2010 Georgia State University Law Review symposium. The symposium, “The Long Road Home: Perspectives On Olmstead Ten Years Later,” was held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center located in midtown Atlanta. Nationally-prominent experts in the field of disability rights and policy explored the effects the 1999 Olmstead v. L.C. decision had on the disabled community and the future of similar litigation. Thanks to everyone who made the symposium a great success! Symposium DescriptionThe Olmstead v. L.C., 527 U.S. 581 (1999) decision is a landmark decision considered by some to be the disability law parallel to Brown v. Board of Education. Attorneys and the surviving plaintiff from the Olmstead litigation, which originated in metropolitan Atlanta, will participate in the symposium. United States District Court Judge Marvin Shoob, who ruled on the original summary judgment motion in Olmstead, will speak at the luncheon. The Georgia State University Law Review will publish a symposium volume on the topic in Spring 2010. |
