Professor Jerzy Minarcyck:
Professor Jerzy Mlnarczyck ranks among the best known authorities in
admiralty and maritime law in all of Europe. He has been a long time member of the faculty
of law at the University of Gdansk and that university has been his platform over the
years for his publication and programmatic efforts in the field of maritime
law. More recently, Professor Mlnarczyck was
appointed president of a new state University for Business studies in Gdansk. Additionally, he is a former President
of the Gdansk
Maritime Arbitration Court as well as the Gydnia Cotton Arbitration Court, making him a global figure in maritime arbitration
circles.
Even outside of law, Professor Mlnarczyck’s life is full of fascinating
accomplishments. He was twice a member of the Polish Olympic
Basketball teams and subsequently played professional ball in an intercity
league in Europe. His name became something of a household word
throughout much of central and eastern Europe. In the 1970s, Professor Mlnarczyck was elected as the Mayor of Gdansk. During his time in office, strikes broke out at the
shipyard in Gdansk in the early 1980's and Professor Mlnarczyck
became the center of a global spotlight. More recently, he has been a
member of the Polish Parliament, and in recent weeks the Parliament has
appointed him President of a new senior institute for business and
commercial studies.
Professor Mlnarczyck
is a fascinating individual, a distinguished scholar, and a leading figure
in maritime affairs in all of Europe.
