Graduate Research Assistantships at the College of Law
Law Research Assistant is a classification given to students who assist law faculty with research. A Law Research Assistant must have successfully completed the first year of law study (32 credit hours). In addition, research assistants must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters or 3 credit hours during the summer term. Research assistants cannot take an academic overload during the semester of employment and cannot serve as a student assistant in any other employment category in another department or college except as a research assistant.
An LRA is employed on a semester basis. Full-time research assistants receive a stipend and reduction in tuition. Part-time research assistants do not receive a reduction in tuition, but receive a stipend based on a reduced number of work hours. Full time research assistants have a minimum obligation of 100 hours of work (50 in the summer) which is to be completed before the beginning of the next academic semester, with a recommended maximum work load of 10 hours per week. Law research assistants are recruited and selected by individual faculty members.
