Graduate Research Assistant Appointment Information
for Faculty Members and Departmental Supervisors

Posting a research assistant opening

If you are interested in posting an opening for a graduate research or administrative assistant (on the web and on college announcement boards), please complete a GRA position vacancy form and submit it to Anjelica Lymon, Room 407 in Urban Life.

Student requirements

Before a student can assume a position as a research assistant; a request form must be completed, approved by the requesting faculty member, and submitted to the College of Law Human Resource Officer (Room 407, Urban Life). Please screen interested students to ensure that they meet the following requirements:

  1. The student must have completed the first year full-time program.
  2. The student must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours during the fall or spring semesters or 3 credit hours during the summer term.
  3. The student cannot take an academic overload during semester of employment.
  4. The student cannot serve as a student assistant or any other employment category in another department or college except as a research assistant.

Once a research assistant has been selected, please direct the student to Room 407 Urban Life to complete an appointment form.

Tuition waivers

Please be advised that students must have completed appointment forms on file by the following dates to be awarded tuition waivers:

  • Fall Semester: September 25
  • Spring Semester: January 31
  • Summer Semester: June 30

Tuition waivers will not be applied to the student's registration record after these dates.

Work schedule

The requesting faculty member/departmental supervisor will coordinate a work schedule with the student. Full-time graduate assistants must work a minimum of 100 hours per semester during the fall and spring, and 50 hours per semester during the Summer semester.

Compensation

Compensation for research assistants is made from fiscal year faculty development accounts, special college grants and departmental budgets. Appointments for the fall and spring are charged to the current fiscal year budget. Summer assistants are charged to the upcoming fiscal year budget. GRA supplemental grants

Faculty who would like to apply for supplemental GRA grants should submit a written proposal to the Dean's office, Room 422 Urban Life.
