All law students graduating Summer 2007, Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 are invited to participate in the 2008 Hooding Ceremony.
All participants must report to rooms 100 and 170 of the College of Law for marshalling at 4:45 p.m., with your academic regalia. Tricia Rackliffe, College of Law Registrar, will meet you and point out your position in the processional. After receiving these instructions, you will proceed to the Sports Arena for the official processional.
During the hooding ceremony when your name is announced, you should proceed to the hooding station where selected members of the faculty will affix an academic hood to your regalia. The ceremony itself should last approximately 90 minutes. A reception with light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will immediately follow the ceremony outside on the Urban Life Plaza. In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held in the West Exhibit Area, 2nd floor of the Urban Life Center.
The Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony for all university graduates will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Georgia Dome. For more information contact the graduation office at (404) 413-2254.
Getting Here
MARTA
Take the east/west rapid-rail line to the Georgia State Station. Exit the station onto Piedmont Avenue, turn right and walk one block to Decatur Street. Turn left onto Decatur and the Sports Arena will be on your left. For bus routes, call Marta at (404) 848-4711.
From the North:
Take interstate 75/85 southbound to Exit 249A (Courtland Street) and turn right onto Courtland Street. Continue along Courtland Street, past Gilmer Street and after the next student stoplight turn right into the parking entrance.
From the South:
Take interstate 75/85 northbound to Exit 246 (Fulton Street/Central Avenue). Veer right, following the signs to Fulton Street and then turn right at the first light onto Fulton Street. Turn left onto Capitol Avenue/Hank Aaron Drive and continue straight on Capitol Avenue, pass the State Capitol. Capitol Avenue then changes names to Piedmont Avenue. Turn left onto Decatur Street, then a left onto Collins Street. Proceed past deck H and turn right into the parking entrance. map
From the East:
Take interstate 20 westbound to Exit 58A (Capitol Avenue) and turn right onto Capitol Avenue. Continue straight on Capitol Avenue past the State Capitol. Capitol Avenue then changes names to Piedmont Avenue. Turn left onto Decatur Street, then a left onto Collins Street. Proceed past deck H and turn right into the parking entrance. map
From the West:
Take interstate 20 eastbound to Exit 56B (Windsor Street/Spring Street/Stadium) and stay on feeder road. At the third traffic light, turn left onto Central Avenue. Proceed down Central, cross over Mitchell Street and MLK Drive, then turn right into the parking entrance. map
Parking
Guests should allow at least 30 minutes for parking and entry into the Sports Arena.
Parking is available for $6 per vehicle in the student parking deck G which can be accessed from Courtland Street, Collins Street or Central Avenue. From Courtland Street, pass Gilmer Street and after the next student stoplight turn right into the parking entrance. From Decatur Street going west, cross Piedmont and turn left onto Collins Street and right into the parking entrance. The Sports Arena is located on Decatur Street directly across from the Urban Life Center and the College of Law. From Central Avenue, cross over Mitchell Street and MLK Drive, then turn right into the parking entrance. Most of the accessible parking spaces in G deck are located near the Courtland Avenue Entrance. Once parked, take the elevator down to the ground level. The accessible entrance to the Sports Arena is on the sidewalk that leads from Collins Street, underneath the Courtland Avenue bridge. Walking from parking area to Sports Arena:Exit parking area on the Collins Street ground level. Proceed down Collins to Decatur Street. The Sports Arena will be on the corner. Take escalator to the third floor. Wheelchair users can use the door on the right side of the building.

Answers to Common Questions
Regalia
Regalia will be available for purchase from the University bookstore. Pre-orders will be accepted at a bookstore 'fair' on April 7-8. You can also pre-order online at www.herffjones.com/college/graduation until March 2nd. The cost is $71 for your regalia which includes cap, gown, hood and tassel. You are welcome to purchase regalia elsewhere but the hood must have the traditional law purple stripe and Georgia State red and blue stripes on the inside. An example of the hood is in Dean Sobelson's office. Graduation cords are not allowed.
All degree candidates participating in the Hooding Ceremony are required to wear appropriate academic regalia. For more information, contact the bookstore directly at (404) 413-9700.
College of Law Hooding Ceremony
Since the Hooding Ceremony is scheduled in the Sports Arena, no tickets are required for admission and there are no reserved seats. The College of Law will provide you with 15 announcements at no cost. Announcements will be available for pick-up on Friday, March 21, 2008, from the 4th floor receptionist at the College of Law. Along with your 15 announcements, you will receive parking maps and direction cards. If you are printing your own invitations, please be sure to include the parking maps and direction cards for your guests.
Participants in the Class of 2008 Gift Campaign who contribute by May 1, 2008 will receive recognition in the official Hooding Ceremony printed program.
Diplomas
Diplomas are not awarded at any of the ceremonies. Upon certification of satisfactory completion of all degree requirements, the university graduation office will mail your diploma to you. The name on your diploma will come from the information you submitted on the graduation form not from the extra-curricular / ballot form which will designate how your name will appear in the program. Photography
