The 2013 College of Law Commencement & Hooding Ceremony is
Friday, May 17 at 4:30pm, GSU Sports Arena.
Guest speaker: Mayor Kasim Reed
Juris Doctor candidates from spring 2013, fall 2012 and summer of 2012 are eligible to participate.
All participants must report with your academic regalia to rooms 100 and 170 of the College of Law for marshalling at 3:30 p.m. Tricia Rackliffe, College of Law Registrar, will meet you and point out your position in the processional. After receiving these instructions, you will proceed to the Sports Arena for the official processional.
During the hooding portion of the ceremony, when your name is announced, you should proceed to the hooding station where selected members of the faculty will affix an academic hood to your regalia. The ceremony itself should last approximately 90 minutes.
Regalia will be available for rental from the University bookstore by ordering online at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/georgiastate/. Choose "Cap and Gown For All Students". The rental cost is $144 for your regalia which includes cap, gown, hood and tassel. All degree candidates participating in the Commencement & Hooding Ceremony are required to wear appropriate academic regalia. For more information, contact the bookstore directly at 404-413-9700.
The first deadline to order regalia online is February 18 with a pickup at the bookstore fair in the Student Center Ballroom on March 27 and 28. Online ordering can continue up till March 28 with a pickup at the bookstore on May 8. The bookstore will have extras on hand if you miss both deadlines but can't guarantee preferred size.
Since the ceremony is scheduled in the Sports Arena, no tickets are required for admission and there are no reserved seats. The College of Law will provide you with 15 announcements at no cost. Announcements will be available for pick-up anytime on or after Friday, March 15, 2013, from the 4th floor receptionist at the College of Law. Along with your 15 announcements, you will receive parking maps and direction cards. If you are printing your own invitations, please be sure to include the parking maps and direction cards for your guests.
Each student is entitled to list up to four extracurricular activities in the official Commencement & Hooding Ceremony program. Please complete this form and include the official titles of the organizations or extracurricular activities you want to appear in the program. In addition, each year the graduating class votes to decide which professors will serve on the hooding team. In order for your vote to be counted and for your law school organizations or activities to be listed in program, you must complete the form and return it by Friday, March 15, 2013.
Two versions of the form are available: MS Word and PDF.
On the afternoon of the ceremony, parking will be available for your guests for a fee of $7.00 per vehicle in parking lots N, K and S. See map below for details. Guests should allow at least 30 minutes for parking and entry into the Sports Arena. A parking map will be included in your invitations.
