Library and Information Services
Nancy P. Johnson
Associate Dean for Library and Information Services
Welcome to the College of Law Library. The Law Library invites you to use the extensive print and online resources and engage in the many learning opportunities in the
Law Library.
The library is the essential place for you to research, study, and access technology. We invite you to consult with our librarians about your research questions. The JD/MLS librarians teach legal research during the fall semester of the first year. In addition, an Advanced Legal research course is offered as an elective course. Our librarians and staff in technical services, who acquire, catalog, and maintain our collection of print and electronic resources, are also committed to providing you with a current and easily accessible library.
The College of Law subscribes to hundreds of electronic indexes and full-text databases available both on and off campus. Students and faculty have access to the full text of court decisions, statutes, treatises, and law journals through LexisNexis, Westlaw, HeinOnline, BNA, and many other electronic resources. The library catalog, GIL, provides location information for all materials, including links to electronic versions of materials. Researchers should begin at the library’s webpage (
http://law.gsu.edu/library/subscriptions.php) for access to electronic resources, GIL, the electronic reserves system, the exam archive, and library information. The Library has over 163,000 volumes in print, including an extensive Georgia legal collection, general treatises, and a popular study aids collection. The Law Library continually adds new resources to its print and electronic collections.
The Law Library offers a variety of study spaces, including carrels, study tables, and group study rooms. Law Library access is restricted to law students and members of the practicing bar on evenings and weekend in order to provide a more student-centered atmosphere for research and other academic pursuits. Wireless laptop access is available throughout the library. Computers and printers are available in the private computer lab reserved exclusively College of Law students. Law students can reserve one of fifteen group study rooms online via the library’s website at
