Externship Academic Component
Professors Curcio and Covey
Course Objectives: To enrich the students' field work experience through in-class exercises, discussions of ethical issues, and presentations by outside speakers.
Time:
Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 11:50 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 11:50 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Assignments: Materials will be distributed prior to each class session for which there is a reading assignment.
Office hours
Professor Curcio: Generally available during working hours Mon - Thurs.
Professor Covey: Tuesdays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., or by appointment.

Grading policy: Satisfactory-unsatisfactory. The grade is based upon the student's total performance in the externship and in class.
Attendance: Attendance is required. You must contact Professor Curcio or Professor Covey prior to missing any class to obtain permission to miss the class. Caveat: The course syllabus provides a general plan for the course; deviations may be necessary.
Classes
January 8 - Topic: Introduction to Course Expectations
The first half hour of this class will be a general orientation session for all externs. The remaining fifty minutes will cover the following topics: setting goals; confidentiality requirements; discussing how to clarify assignments; and reviewing how to get meaningful feedback.
