Description

Three semester hours, one semester requirement. Focuses on advocating for Muslim, Middle Eastern, South Asian, and other immigrant communities in the state by empowering community members to assert their constitutional and human rights through educational presentations, providing legal representation through recruiting and training Georgia attorneys, and advocacy before state, national, and international bodies, a well as monitoring and shedding light on conditions at immigration detention facilities in Georgia. Prospective law clerks will be called upon to engage in a variety of tasks, including writing legislative research memos and preparing legislative testimonies, putting together and conducting Know Your Rights presentations aimed at various immigrant communities, interviewing immigrant detainees and researching constitutional and international human rights standards for immigration detention, as well as researching and responding to complaints of discrimination targeted at immigrants and/or post-9/11 abuses of power. All students who have not previously taken an externship must attend a classroom component at the law school. Consent of the Lawyer Skills Program faculty is required for enrollment.
