Founded in 1976, Southeastern Legal Foundation, Inc. is celebrating it's 32nd year as an Atlanta-based public interest law firm that advocates limited government, individual economic freedom, and the free enterprise system in the courts of law and public opinion. Our mission is to engage in litigation and public policy advocacy in support of these principles. Students will assist the SLF's Senior Counsel, Stephen D. Morrison, Jr. and Chief Legal Counsel, Shannon L. Goessling, primarily through research, writing memoranda, drafting pleadings and discovery on complex issues. We also emphasize research and monitoring current constitutional law cases and issues for possible litigation and amicus curiae briefing opportunities. The student will also attend court and depositions as needed to assist their supervising attorney. Thus, the extern may look forward to not only practical training in strategy and procedure, but they may also be involved in significant appelate work, depending on the docket. All students who have not taken an externship must attend a classroom component at the law school. Consent of the Lawyer Skills Program faculty is required for enrollment.
