Henry J. Miller Lecture and Lunch
Thursday, March 18, 2010, Noon - 1:15 pm
46th Distinguished Henry J Miller Lecture Series
Speaker: Professor Iam Ayres, William K. Townsend Professor of Law, Yale Law School
Topic: Legal Barriers to Diversification
Investors can diversify risk by spreading investments across assets or across time. While strategies for asset diversification are now well developed, this lecture will show that better time diversification can reduce volatility by about 20%. The law has been resistant to both types of risk diversification. Progress has been made in recent decades in facilitating asset diversification, but substantial law reform is needed to allow risk-averse investors to more fully benefit from time diversification.
