Karen JohnstonAssistant Director of the Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan GrowthKaren Johnston is the Assistant Director for the Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth. Karen holds a J.D. from Georgia State University as well as a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech. Prior to joining the Center, Karen worked as a consultant for The Home Depot, designing environmental, health and safety and loss prevention training for store associates. Previously, she worked for The Home Depot for nearly five years in a variety of environmental roles. She was the Project Supervisor of Environmental Programs, and was responsible for all corporate environmental and social responsibility programs. She was also the Manager of Operations, where she was responsible for EH&S regulatory compliance, communications, and training to all stores. Karen also worked for Camp Dresser & McKee as an Environmental Engineer for nearly four years. She primarily focused on water resources planning, water distribution and treatment, and wastewater treatment and collection systems. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and its Environmental Law Section, where she previously served as an associate editor of its Environmental Law Newsletter. She is also an active member of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. |
