Nancy P. Johnson

Associate Dean for Library and Information Services and Professor of Law

Nancy Johnson joined the College of Law Library in 1982 where she is responsible for the overall management of the Law Library. Since 1983, Johnson has taught legal research to first year students and since 1988, she has taught a seminar in advanced legal research techniques. From 1989-2003, Johnson taught law librarianship in the Clark Atlanta University Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.

Johnson has authored several books and articles on legal research and law library management. Her Legal Research Exercise book (with Susan Phillips, West) is now in its 9th edition. Her article on Researching Georgia Law (with Beth Adelman and Nan Adams) that appeared in the Georgia State University Law Review, remains a popular teaching tool. In 2007, she coauthored Georgia Legal Research with Beth Adelman and Nan Adams (Carolina Academic Press). In addition, in 2007, she co-authored a book chapter titled Georgia Practice Materials with Ron Wheeler. She continues to update her work on Sources of Compiled Legislative Histories, which is now on HeinOnline. In 2002, she authored a CALI lesson on Researching Federal Legislative History and in 2005, she coauthored a CALI lesson on Georgia Primary Materials.

Johnson served as a member of the American Association of Law Libraries Executive Board, President of the Southeastern Law Library Association, President of the Consortium of Southeastern Law Libraries, and President of the Atlanta Law Libraries Association. She has been a member of several ABA Site Evaluation Teams. She received the CALI Excellence in Service Award and the SEAALL Service Award.

Prior to joining GSU, Johnson worked as a reference library at the University of Chicago Law School and the University of Illinois Law Library.
