Some 3,000 students are enrolled at Gordon College, the majority of them from Georgia. The small, close knit campus ensures that students receive a high-degree of personal attention from instructors. Some 600 students live in on-campus housing, and the majority of other students commute from the south metro Atlanta counties of Fayette, Henry, Clayton, and Spalding. Gordon College fulfills its two-year college mission through some 39 associate degrees in the liberal arts and humanities, agriculture, business, sciences, and the allied health fields. Students who graduate with an associate's degree may transfer to any of the four-year colleges and universities in the University System. Students also may enroll in cooperative degree programs in cooperation with local technical schools or enroll in one of several one-year certificate programs. The college offers a highly regarded program in nursing, and students may enroll for the two-year associate degree in nursing or earn a bachelor's degree offered in cooperation with the Medical College of Georgia. Gordon College also offers courses in Fayetteville, Griffin, Jackson and McDonough. It boasts a strong college foundation which awards scholarships to talented students. As one of the University System's fastest-growing institutions, the college is constructing a new state-of-the-art science and technology center which will be a technology hub. Recent building additions include a 144-bed residence hall and a 500-seat Fine Arts Auditorium. Students may participate in a variety of clubs, organizations and activities, including student government, sports, and the arts. Each spring, the college stages the Highlander Games where students try their luck at ancient Scottish athletic events. The College competes in men's and women's soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball and men's and women's tennis as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. After its initial beginnings as a seminary, the College was named in honor of legendary Georgia General John B. Gordon in 1872. General Gordon gained recognition as a corps commander in the Con-federate Army and later served three terms in the U.S. Senate and two terms as Georgia's Governor. As one of the nation's premier military institutions, Gordon Military College trained young men, stressing leadership, scholarship and service. The college became a member of the University System of Georgia in 1972, as an associate-level college with a distinctive legacy of excellence, scholarship and service. |

Gordon College is a rural, two-year residential college located on 125 beautiful, tree-lined acres in the quiet middle Georgia town of Barnesville. The peaceful campus consistently has been recognized for its safety. From its founding as a seminary for men and women in 1852, Gordon College has grown in response to the educational needs of its community.
