Located in the heart of Atlanta, the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the nation's leading research universities. The campus is located on 330 rolling, tree- lined acres in Atlanta and in the shadow of a majestic skyline largely designed by architects who are Georgia Tech alumni. The Institute has a strong international presence through a campus in Metz, in the Lorraine Region of France, and via its Logistics Institute in Singapore.

The Institute is consistently recognized for academic excellence. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Georgia Tech in the top 10 public universities in the nation and the College of Engineering was ranked within the top five nationally among all colleges. Programs in city planning, public policy, computer science, physics, and architecture continue to be ranked in the top 10 nationally. Research activity reached an all-time high in 1999-2000 with $263 million in expenditures, and at the end of 1999, the Georgia Tech Research Corporation took ownership of 23 patents, 18 invention licenses and 50 software licenses.

Tech enrolls more than 14,000 of the brightest students in the nation and from around the world in its six colleges: Architecture, Computing, the Ivan Allen College, Engineering, Sciences, and Management. It has the third-highest percentage of National Merit Scholars and National Achievement Scholars among public institutions in the U.S. They come to Georgia Tech from Georgia and the 50 states, plus 114 countries to enroll in one of 31 undergraduate and 70 graduate programs. The range of programs includes architecture, computing, engineering and management, policy and international affairs, and liberal arts. The student body is diverse, with an average age of 22 and a 33 percent minority and international student enrollment.

Students also have an active life outside of the classroom while at Georgia Tech. They can choose from a vast array of cultural, social and recreational opportunities to keep them occupied when they're not in class. More than 6,000 students participate in 280 clubs, organizations, honor societies, fraternities, sororities and other activities.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets compete in 16 intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division I level as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tech student-athletes excel in the classroom as well as on the playing field, with one-third of them making the dean's list.

The Georgia Institute of Technology was founded in 1885 as the centerpiece of Georgia's plan for industrial resurgence. For more than 115 years, its students and alumni have been successful in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in the board rooms of the U.S. and throughout the world.
