The concept of learning and education at the Georgia Gwinnett College is rooted in innovation. GGC offers traditional classroom courses and a blend of "hybrid" courses and on-line learning experiences whereby students learn at home, in the classroom, and in the office using the Web and enhanced classroom solutions. All of the classrooms feature innovative, advanced "smart" technology where student education is facilitated by advanced digital systems. Learning is facilitated via a seamless extension of the classroom available across the campus or across the world using educational and information technology platforms. Founded as the University System's third "state college," Georgia Gwinnett's mission will be to provide a range of associate degree programs, as well as a number of bachelor degree programs focused on the economic development needs of Gwinnett County and the surrounding area. Specific bachelor degree programs are being planned for presentation to the Board of Regents at their November meeting. The existing Gwinnett University Center will be phased out as lower-division students from Georgia Perimeter and upper-division students from UGA, SPSU and MCG graduate or transfer to other institutions. Once the transition is complete, the new institution will offer all undergraduate education, with UGA continuing to provide graduate programs and continuing-education courses. Georgia Gwinnett College will begin offering junior-level courses in the fall semester of 2006, and is expected to be fully operational by the 2008-2009 academic year. Degree programs will focus on four general areas that are important to meeting the needs of the region and the state: teacher education, information technology, business, and the health professions. |

In the spring of 2005, the Georgia Legislature and the Board of Regents approved a bold and progressive plan to create the first new state college in Georgia since 1970. Located on the former Gwinnett University Center campus in Lawrenceville, Georgia Gwinnett College is a high tech, four-year institution serving the higher educational needs of Gwinnett County. The college is destined to become a highly innovative higher education learning campuses.
