Fort Valley State University

Fort Valley State University is a comprehensive, residential, four-year institution providing an educational experience of exceptional quality. Located only 20 minutes south of Macon and within an hour and a half of Atlanta, Fort Valley is in the heart of picturesque Peach County. Its 1,369-acre campus makes it the second largest (in acreage) public university in the state.

Although 105 years old, the campus of Fort Valley is firmly established in the technological age. Fiber-optic cable links every major building, including the six residence halls consisting of nearly one-thousand living spaces on campus. Students learn in classroom and instructional facilities that are state-of-the-art.

More than 2,500 students attend Fort Valley. They hail from approximately 130 of Georgia's 159 counties, more than 30 states and about 10 international countries. The student body is diverse and they learn in an atmosphere that is supportive and designed to blend cultural, ethnic, racial and gender diversity in a challenging academic program.

The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 50 majors, as well as master's degrees in education, animal science, and counseling, and a collaborative doctorate in education. Distance learning opportunities are provided for non-traditional students and the university offers a Weekend College characterized by small classes and personal interaction with professors. In addition to the Fort Valley campus, courses are offered at off-campus sites in Macon, Warner Robins, Cochran, Dublin and Vienna. The university also offers a study-abroad program with options for academic course work, student teaching and internship.

With more than 70 clubs, sororities, fraternities and social organizations on campus, students have many opportunities for leadership and personal growth outside of class. Fort Valley State University is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and fields NCAA Division II teams in six women's sports: basketball, tennis, cross country, volleyball, softball and track & field; as well as men's teams in football, basketball, cross country, track & field and tennis.

Fort Valley State University was established in 1895 and was named Fort Valley High and Industrial School. It became Fort Valley State College in 1939 and Fort Valley State University in 1996.
