College of Law Professor Paul Lombardo provides further enlightenment on eugenics in this Sunday front page Atlanta Journal Constitution article, which ties in with the professor's recent request of the Georgia legislature to formally apologize for the state's forced sterilizations between 1937-70.
Professor Lombardo has encouraged the introduction of the resolution for the apology, an effort he also pushed for successfully in Virginia and California. The Georgia House last week introduced the resolution that expresses "profound regret" for the approximately 3,300 sterilizations that occurred while the state's law was in effect. The resolution has been assigned to the Health and Human Services Committee.
