Georgia State University College of Law will hold its first annual Intellectual Property Student Writing Competition in 2012. The GSU Intellectual Property Writing Competition seeks papers addressing legal issues and challenges in the intellectual property field.

1st Place: $3,000
2nd Place: $2,000
3rd Place: $1,000
Winners will also have the opportunity to have their paper published in the conference materials for the 2012 Corporate IP Institute (CIPI). CIPI is a 2-day event held each year in Atlanta at the campus of Georgia State University where approximately two hundred IP professionals gather to discuss current intellectual property issues, stories, and strategies of corporations.
Individuals who are currently enrolled at an ABA accredited law school are eligible to enter. Papers may not have more than one author (no co-authorship).
Entries should be submitted by email to iplaw@gsu.edu no later than April 30, 2012, in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat format.
Papers must represent original works not previously published or targeted for submission to another journal, law review or other periodical for publication until the winning papers are announced. Papers should be 30-50 double-spaced pages long, including footnotes. Each entry must include the name of the individual entrant's law school, the student’s class/program in law school, and the following contact information: mailing address, telephone number and email address.
Winners will be determined at the sole discretion of Georgia State University College of Law. All entrants will be notified of the competition results via email or in writing. Criteria for judging include: (a) originality of thought; (b) contributions to the law and practice; (c) completeness of scholarly research; and (d) the overall style and content of the work.
Authors will retain ownership of the copyright for all works submitted. However, authors receiving any award must first grant CIPI a worldwide, royalty free, non-exclusive license to publish the work or have the work published. All authors shall retain the right to publish or have published submitted articles.
