Instructions for Class Preparation: Class One
As explained in the Guide to the Movie, Gandhi, the first class will be spent watching excerpts from the Academy Award winning 1982 movie. (I will be out of town from August 18-25.) You should certainly read the short biography and the viewing guide posted on the syllabus before the first class (this will take about 10 minutes). The other assigned readings are intended to give you an idea why the course uses a comparison between India and the United States as a way of exploring the theme of judicial power. It is important for you to do these readings by the time of Class 2 (as well as the two U.S. cases and related materials assigned for the second class).
