Fulton County Criminal Justice Blue Ribbon Commission

The Board of Commissioners of Fulton County established the Blue Ribbon Commission at the May 19, 2004 Board of Commissioners Recess Meeting (Item #04-0624). The Mission of the Blue Ribbon Commission is to ensure that the criminal justice system of Fulton County is streamlined, effective, and efficient; that it promotes fairness; and that it provides justice for everyone who lives or works within the County's borders.

The Commission brings together representatives of the government and the community for two purpose: first, to examine the problems, issues, and trends currently facing the criminal justice system as well as those likely to impact the system in the future; second, to recommend long and short term solutions.

The Board expects two specific outcomes from this process: First, an assessment of the criminal justice system as a whole, including its strengths and weaknesses, with recommendations concerning the actions that might best address the weaknesses. This assessment will provide information about the workings of the criminal justice system that can inform effective short-term decisions and create a foundation for longer term solutions. Second, the board expects a system master plan that can provide guidance for the Board and the agencies of the criminal justice system to achieve the vision for Fulton County outlined above.
