Equipment for Student Use in Career Services

Job List Binders

The job listing notebooks containing information about current posted positions, are located in the Career Services Office, and are placed on reserve in the Law Library whenever the Career Services Office is closed, i.e. after business hours and on week ends. There are three listing books, which are identical to each other. Listings are divided into categories such as public interest, law firms, governmental, judicial, student legal jobs, out-of-state and corporations. The listings are numbered and placed in reverse chronological order, with collective listings at the back of each book.

Computers

The Career Services Office has three personal computers for student use. One is to use for resume and cover letter production and two others for career searches. Of the two others, one is a designated Lexis terminal and the other is a designated Westlaw terminal. It is highly recommended that you do your resume on a computer and save it onto a disk. In this way it allows flexibility in updating.

Typewriters

There is a correcting electric typewriter available for student use in the Office for typing employment-related documents. The typewriter is especially handy for filling out applications and preparing envelopes.

Lexis/Nexis

Lexis has an entire career database for student use and at no charge. The career database contains many valuable directories, which can be searched using a variety of parameters. Nexis, the news database, contains articles from hundreds of publications. In addition, the Career Services Office has developed a special program that allows you to transfer data from the Lexis Martindale-Hubbell Directory directly into mail-merge format in WordPerfect.
